🔢 ROT47
Encrypt and decrypt text with ROT47. Rotates ASCII characters 33-126 by 47 positions. Encrypt equals decrypt.
About ROT47
ROT47 is a derivative of ROT13 that operates on the printable ASCII range (codes 33 to 126, 94 characters in total). Each character in that range is shifted by 47 positions, wrapping around the range. Because 47 is exactly half of 94, applying ROT47 twice restores the original text, so a single operation both encrypts and decrypts. It also rotates digits and punctuation, which ROT13 leaves untouched. This tool runs entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded.
How it works
- Only ASCII characters with codes 33 through 126 (! through ~) are shifted.
- Each character is rotated 47 positions forward, wrapping around the 94-character range.
- Example: '!' (33) becomes 'P' (80), 'P' (80) becomes '!' (33), '0' (48) becomes '_' (95).
- The same operation reverses itself, so one button handles both encrypt and decrypt.
- Characters outside the printable ASCII range (spaces, newlines, tabs, non-ASCII) are left unchanged.
Use cases
- Hiding URLs, IDs, or short snippets in chat without affecting spaces.
- Light obfuscation that also scrambles digits and punctuation.
- Creating quick puzzles that involve numbers and symbols, not just letters.
- Teaching the concept of self-inverse ciphers on a wider character set.
Frequently asked questions
Is ROT47 secure? No. It provides no real cryptographic security — applying ROT47 again reveals the original. Use it only for casual hiding.
Why is there no mode selector? ROT47 is self-inverse: encoding and decoding use the same operation, so a single Execute button covers both.
Does ROT47 affect spaces? No. Spaces (ASCII 32) and newlines are outside the rotated range and pass through unchanged.
Does this tool upload my text? No. All transformation happens locally in your browser.
